Very cool to see how much was already there in 2018 and the huge jump in polish and gameplay until the Steam release.

Pretty sure the "stone pickaxe" icon is still present in the game, as the icon for the skill
yeah some icons are the same
Stone pickaxe is still present not only icon. You can spawn it with commands and it behaves the same way as antler pickaxe

Stone circles were used in ULTIMA for portals. The destination was controlled by the moon phase.

the surtlings surrounding the meteor in the plains resembles the old ashlands (at least around launch). Meteors all over spawning surtlings around them (used to be the best way to grind coal), but they were made of early Flametal instead of iron. The old flametal got changed to 'ancient metal' or something when the Ashlands update dropped, and remains useless
there used to be mountain biomes scattered across the ashlands too. different time

The amount of sprites, mechanics, and some of the graphics that haven’t changed kinda surprised me

The greydwarf brute at 10:00 is not identical to what we have. Greydward brutes have one of their arms turned into a club, this guy had normal arms

That explains why brutes still do slashing damage and not blunt!
In today's valheim, there is a lore stone in the plains that describes Ulf (I believe Ulf sees it) seeing a meteor fall to the earth and it being full of precious metal
this is without a doubt connected to the meteorite in this alpha version and i find that really cool

This isn't the oldest version you can play.
Man Surtlings really got done dirty. From originally being found everywhere, to then being relegated only to the swamp geysers and what could be considered their home biome the Ashlands; only in the end to be tossed out of their native land, forced to live in the swamp only, a biome that was their direct enemy.

@@SpazzyjonesGamingIt was called Fejd before it became Valheim. Not sure if you can play them still, but there were builds available in 2017.

That last one would have saved me some confusion. I fixed up a building with a chest in it to have a midway camp for hauling ore. I dumped all my ore in the existing chest. I got more ore and decided to rearrange the chests. I pulled all my ore from the full existing chest, destroyed it, and made a few more chests. I realized the chest wasn’t full when I dumped the ore into the new one. I thought there was a bug and I lost two stacks of ore.

Something interesting I noticed in the video is that the boss altar has a different creature in each column, so maybe the intention was to allow summoning of different bosses.

despite the old version of valheim having shield decorations on a boat we can't decorate boats in the current version of the game :(

NO STAMINA BAR!!! this explains alot..like a whole lot about the mobs with infinite stamina as well...
BUT i will say i do love the mod that is out today that adds the rocks and copper ore nodes from this version back to the game xD

I played the alpha back in 2018 myself many many times. It's how i fell for the game and played it since. Not many knows how this game was back in the alpha versions

I think I would have skill loved playing this. :D The basic chest is so much cuter. I'd love them to remodel it back closer to that.
It definitely felt a lot chunkier but I agree there were some nice touches I wish they kept

Honestly i find the alpha troll better, the darker skin and moss around it looks more natural to its environment

back then.. I only find trolls in the mountains... so I really thought they'll give you freeze resistance... to my dismay, it still just give sneak bonus.. and Alpha Valheim has an ending, just set sail to the end of the world...

Seems the 'not enough iron' problem stems at least in part from earlier builds having iron in many biomes...

Man i wish we had horns on bronze helmet still. Yeah i know its not historical, but its cool. You could name yourself wicky the viking.
Also this version seems like it only had 2 bosses (havent seen swamp one) and mountain just existed. No idea if mistlands or deep north even existed.

Hyped for the final biome. Didnt continue playing to Ashlands since the announcement that next update would be the last biome. Looking forward to get back and start again

I really wish there was still a perma buff for health. While i like the mechanic i wish there was a was to upgrade your base health so that foods werent the only temporary upgrade. Things are balanced but its still just something id like more

This should be the difference between every alpha/ beta and the actual release.. not how they do it now where they act like they’re still working on the game and when it releases, it’s the exact same as it was in testing.

@@SpazzyjonesGaming I did. Still just way too much check list labor for me. It's a shame; I love the aesthetics and building mechanics, but the game in vanilla form just isn't for me.

The thing I love is there are still so many of the original items still found in the game maybe just not in the ways we think of. The one my daughter and I just found is the Iron ore is still in game just as a "drop" while fishing for fish in the swamps.

They gave the game to a few streamers on Twitch when the character was a stick man.The character is still to this day a horrid throwback to the 80's.The Troll/Serpent seem to have been made around the same time imo this was some assets from long before this game was a reality.
No true water zones if very common in cheap Indie games I despise it.Imo if not for mods and the ability to cheat/exploit this game would have received a lot more criticism.
The 3 on a tree mob system is so old school as well and the aggro auto tracking makes the game again look old and a lazy design.
