I’m 100% convinced that everything from The Young One to Bottom is a single storyline. I refuse to explain further, but trust me when I say the idea isn’t crazy at all!!
I came up with a theory that Vyvyan changed his name because he got sick of it being called a girl's name. And Rick changed his to Richie because he was sick of being called PRick. Eddie changed his surname from Basterd to Hitler because he wanted "a less problematic surname"...😂
I actually totally agree! Richie tried to be famous and failed so they moved into the house in Bottom and eventually admitted defeat so just kicked the s*** out of each other forever more 😂

I think the underlying issue was the way it really p****d off Bruce Forsyth and especially Jimmy Tarbuck who, to this day is quite angry about it. The entire series was only ever shown once on the BBC. Fortunately I videoed them all. It followed The Young Ones which was too difficult to beat. Filthy, Rich & Catflap wasn’t that good but it’s worth a watch.

I'm glad that there wasn't .... If this had continued wed never had gotten "bottom", which is probably my favourite, the dangerous brothers was pretty funny too, but this was awful, after the third doorbell fart gag it becomes impossible to even raise a smile let alone get a laugh... I think everyone tried to hard and went to far. As for Ben Elton comedy... Never liked it, wealthy people toilet humour, doing and saying everything that mummy wouldn't approv of, it's why he was tak n off screen early on in his career because he's the least funny person around. being in my mid 30s and as a child watching rik and eddie when i was younger i really appreciate seeing new content to me i wish id seen all this before, i was around in the harry enfield days and bottom and never knew this existed, im letireally crying i9n laughter, these guys and vic and bob also harry and paul were peak british comedy
I watched this when it came out and thought it was genius straight away. It's a dull thing to say but me and three mates would go down the pub all weekend and quote this to each other. I can't look at Eddie Catflap without thinking of my old mate Kev, who had all the facial mannerisms down to a T. So much of it made it into our daily language. Don't get me wrong - Young Ones & Bottom are brilliant but this beats them hands down. I still have a great urge to walk through my front door, hurl a pint glass into the air and jump up to headbutt it as it falls to the ground. Maybe one day...
This came out a few years after The Young Ones. I was so so disappointed by this effort back in the day. Finally decided to give it another go, after allowing a few decades to brew. Three minutes in and I'm already pissing myself laughing, this is awesome!
I am amazed that I haven't seen this series until just now. Episode 2 was my favourite but Midge Ure was a real sport taking part in setting himself up for a larf at the end. Great stuff, thanks for the upload and keeping it up (ooh er).
I saw this on release and my opinion of it being some of their finest work holds. They seem to be having so much fun - totally amped to 11. Every time they break the 4th wall is pure pure gold. ❤

@@JMmkting Although the slapstick elements were much the same, FR&C was more topical than Bottom and was a direct stab at the tedious light entertainment industry that dominated mainstream TV for decades. I still think it’s woefully underrated to this day.
From the young ones and the dangerous brothers to bottom, practically the exact same characters and humour.... Funny how this wasn't very funny and was what many of us would've thought would've been the end of this kind of silly comedy as it had certain oy worn a bit tiresome, but with bottom it's like it all came full circle and it never worked better. Bottom was perfect, such a shame that Rik had developed issues and wasn't going to able to continue before he sadly passed away. Rest in peace Mr Mayall, a true legend of British comedy and one who will always be fondly remembered by us all. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Rik Mayall to The Young Ones is what Rowan Atkinson was to Blackadder, only Rik appears slightly more intelligent here. This short-lived series is from around 1986 so it's definitely before Bottom, and before Hugh Laurie went on to star in House. A nice touch seeing Rik vs. The Nolans.
You get the feeling that the filming of the opening credits involved Rik standing on the street, camera at a distance with members of the public walking past thinking "What a Twat"! You just know that tossing the bowler hat ended with it hitting the woman with the umbrella. The scene is cut just that bit too quickly.
Wich jolly gap toothed scouser comedian who now presents Winner Takes All ,first rose to fame on Sunday Night At The London Palladium ,he also enjoys the odd round of golf and his initials are J.T? 😂😂😂

I told my mum Rik died from a heart attack and that he was only in his mid 50's when it happened. She said "No wonder. Look at how them two behave. He's mad" Haha I think Rik would have liked that or replied to her in a sarcastic way. She was referring to the Bottom characters being insane.
So happy to have discovered this. As groundbreaking as the Young Ones was, and as riotious as Bottom was, this was always my favourite Mayall/Edmonson sitcom. And one of Ben Elton’s most underrated works too.
Bill is played by Gareth Milne and there are people dressed like the Federation stormtroopers in Blakes, 7 in the last episode wearing black leather uniforms and black visored helmets.
I think a lot of people missed out on this classic, and it is classic….because it wasn’t well received at the time and there was only the one series… and of course their age….whilst both the young ones & bottom we’re both more publicised and seen as more “classic comedies”
Compared to things like The Young Ones and Bottom, this is more experimental, which means it doesn't always work but it's still worth a watch. I often revisit the gameshow episode. Though I still can't work out where the hell Chris Barrie is supposed to be from.

It was canceled after Series 1 and there never was a 2nd Series. So maybe the "humor back in the day" wasn't quite as great as you seem to think.
It wasn't cancelled at all. They just didn't want to do any more.
