The DM of the third story had the same vibe as the dude who tried to slip an aarakocra into a campaign where no such creature is supposed to exist. He listened to the players' requests, okayed their character concepts, and then immediately went about trying to circumvent them in "fun and clever" ways. I'm surprised the line "You'd like it if you just give it a chance" wasn't slipped in somewhere.
The one with the Alpha Sokka story, that is NOT how Sokka would be in that type of situation and I'm sick of people who don't get his character. Ughhhh!
Wow. Just, wow. Also really? They didn't want ZUKO? I'd hate to see him like this, but cmon he is PERFECT for DND. Sorcerer sure, progressing into monk levels or something.
Basically every ATLA character feels like they’d fit right into DND, personality and story wise. The main characters would all make good PCs with the side characters being excellent NPCs (or even a couple of PCs like Ty Lee). Guess that’s what happens when all your characters are so well written
Starting story, good on OP for dumping the loser and the other players for standing with her like that. The DM from the third story needed to be handled that way because it sounds like the asshole wanted material so to speak. He's gross and no one deserves to have him in their life. That aside, I saw another channel with the Sokka story and same opinion as before; if someone's concept is 'x but 'based'', it's getting shredded. In general, the idea of 'I'm going to use this established character but with this idea' feels like them trying to 'fix' them in a way that ultimately breaks them or goes against literally everything they are like this loser with Sokka. I remember anything horror story from a while back about someone doing it with Levi from AoT about how he's cold and sees his soldiers as tools when the real Levi is the opposite
@@emberfist8347 I can agree the idea can work if it's a *separate* concept. What I'm specifically calling out is 'here's this character with what I think 'fixes' them' like this guy with Sokka, especially the whole idea of 'based'. Mainly when they get the idea wrong. Besides, Sokka *is* based. What comes to mind first is him saving a town of Fire Nation villagers from being killed by Jet. He has every right to hate the Fire Nation, he could've let them die, but instead he followed his conscious, risked his life on multiple levels, and saved innocent people from certain doom.
@@emberfist8347there’s a difference on changing a character and “fixing” them. Especially if it’s to make them “based”. Personally I’ve never heard anyone that’s attempted to make an existing character “based” without turning them into an asshole by using them in their original, pre character growth form, and dialling up their flaws to 110% (like this example with Sokka and his initial sexism).
16:42 "ara ara" (japanese, the english corrispective is "oh my") is the classic anime reaction of a surprised yet amused highborn woman. "stylish" ladies are one of the MANY fetishes of the anime fandom (no, I'm not going to say "otaku", that's a misnomer). Basically, DM was trying to have E act like the stereotypical anime noblewoman - which is kind of silly, given that most ara aras (neologism, apologies for using it) are close to middle aged (or they are elves, dragons or, you know, anyone who can score "grown up points" in the eye of the fans)
Intro story: Gross. I’m glad OP was able to stand up for herself, and that the guy is now her ex. First story: Well, that’s terrifying. I’m glad everyone was all right! Second story: So, remember when I said the intro story was gross? Yeah, that’s nothing compared to this. It was a bad idea to watch this video while eating breakfast. Good thing OP got out of there! Third story: YTA, OP. You aren’t the boss of the party, and if you’re so into talking about things, you should have talked instead of throwing a tantrum. Are pretend items in a pretend game really worth risking your friendships over? You could have killed Britta’s character with your little stunt, and I don’t think the rest of the party would want to keep someone who commits murder over minor disagreements around-or, for that matter, the player of someone who commits murder over minor disagreements. Fourth story: I’ve never even watched “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” but even I know that this guy has COMPLETELY missed the point of Sokka’s character. That is fucking disgusting.
In the show, soccer wasn't even that bad even before his character development. He was a teenager growing up in a patriarchal village where he was pressured to take the place of the chieftain, his dad, and to protect his sister. With everybody being on the team being a super powerful vendor, it kind of shook what he viewed to be his role as was taught to him, but even at that point he was never an outright asshole, just kind of an arrogant jerk sometimes. He would never do anything remotely like this.
I had a similar story to this first one about a year ago. My parents' house was built in like 1910 (I think?) and they used plaster for just about everything, including the ceiling. We'd been living there for about 6-ish years by then when my brother noticed a sagging spot in his ceiling around the center of the room, and while we weren't able to repair it we were sort of cautiously keeping an eye on it (my room also had a few spots starting to detach from the wooden planks of the attic above, but not as obviously). One day as I'm about to get on call with my DnD group I hear a loud thud and the floor shakes, followed by my brother yelling that the ceiling collapsed. It clipped his shoulder since he'd been playing on his computer at the time but otherwise nothing expensive was damaged and no one was hurt. I had to cancel last minute and told the party to play without me because of this collapse and spent the evening helping my sister clean up the rubble while my dad and brother went to the hardware store and got a large slab of wood to secure over the collapsed section. I can only imagine how jarring it must have been to see in Discord "Hey guys I can't make it, my ceiling just collapsed" about 5 mins before session
If the DM requires you to roll for your organ size, ditch the campaign immediately. If the DM or a player wants their character to rape other characters, ditch the campaign immediately. If the rest of the players and the DM are okay with rape, ditch the campaign immediately. 😒
I think the AITA post is an ESH the system they have gives all the power for items to the majority because it is a group fund so OP can't save points for something he wants because the others can spend it, was OP bad yes but so was everyone else including the GM for letting things happen.
Pretty much. Had a gane session playing d20 star wars. Had a player playing a C/N droid character(astromech unit type) like in dnd if u dont have proficiency in something u cant use or do it well. So binary talking droid and everyone put 2 players cant understand it. We had a black sun mid rank operative on body with 4 of his bodyguards. Instead of trying to clarify our situation and show him who we're getting our contracts from.(we all assumed it was someone higher up or another mid ranker giving us these contracts). The droid immediately goes into the cockpit and trys to jack into the ship trying to gain control of. The player wanted to vent the atmosphere and make us all suffocate and pass out, then kill the black sun and guards. Me and another player said nope, we're gonna try and stop the droid. Out of game i was annoyed(this guy had been a problem player in our other dnd groups) in game i was furious as to who let this rogue droid on board without a restraining bolt. I shouldve bought more and while it was jacked in, i should've attached the bolt. Instead we tried shooting and stabbing at it. After that session i quit the group, and about a month later it fell apart.
Idk what’s worse the DM joining creep olympics on the channel or Andrew Tate Sokka . Why , how and who are these people ?? Do they have any friends with backbone to slap sense into them ?!?! P.S these skits are getting better as it goes .
My fiancé plays a Kenku in my campaign. As a group when she started playing we joked that she would need to roll to see if she would talk or just squak and mimic things. She LOVED the idea. A year and a half later the campaign is still going strong and the addition to this rule has caused many laughs and memories.
Third Story: It doesn't sound like the majority won, though; since C wasn't there to argue, it was a 2-1-1 decision. Had C been there and made it a clear 3-1 decision to spend the points on the single-point items, that would've been a fine majority-rules decision, but it could've also been tied at 2-2. Part of the problem is the items being unknown until they're purchased, though. I'm guessing 1-point items are, like, +1 weapons or other normal standard magical items; if they knew that the 6-point item was, like, a Cloak of Invisibility or something crazy like that, it could've provided OP with an argument for saving up. I'd suggest a system where a separate renown system exists within this guild where you can spend a separate currency from the points you gain for completing missions to know what items are available, and the better and more well-known you are, the more information you're given by spending points, but since OP left the game, nevermind.
My last apartment (1st floor) had a leak in the ceiling because of renovations being done on the 2nd floor. We first noticed the dripping around 2 AM, but as there was no emergency maintenance, couldn’t get ahold of anyone until 10 AM, while the leak steadily increased until most of the bedroom ceiling was brown, and we’d spread a shower curtain and buckets to protect what we could. They finally sent someone to shut off the water, but never address the damage to our unit, despite several tickets being opened. That place sucked 🙃
I was wondering what "Sokka but more based" meant. Apparently it just means taking the negative qualities Sokka had in the first couple episodes of the show, and cranking it up to 11. I guess this dude thought the Kyoshi Warriors should have worshipped the ground Sokka tread on, instead of kicking him around and teaching him a lesson in maturity.
I mean sokka started out kinda bad, but never actually malicious. Hell the moment the kioshi warriors kicked his ass he reevaluated his views and actively tried to become better.
The real horror story here is that the poster of the ‘Sokka’ story didn’t name the character ‘Suckka’. I guarantee that’s what the actual Sokka would call this hideous travesty bearing his likeness…ya know, between him and Suki taking the asshole to school.
I'm offended that males don't get to roll for butt size. What if Valathrax, my Teifling warlock, needs to have a FUCKIN DUMPTRUCK. Its literally important to his backstory.
Fourth Story: "Sokka but more based"... So Sokka at the start of the show, before he gets any sort of growth and development and learns to respect and fight alongside women as equals? When he's actually cool and not a shitty idiot teen? With no plans on letting him grow in the same way he did in the show? Cool concept. 9_9
*sigh* okay... "Ara Ara" is a Japanese colloquialism that basically translates to "Oh my!" Somehow, in the west it came specifically to be something like: "Oh my, what do we have *here*?" In a memetic George Takei-like tone, specifically from predatory women towards younger boys.
The AITA story looks like everyone kind of was the A - B for not caring about the party over themself, the OP for starting PvP over what ultimately was a sign of a group they should just have walked out on, and frankly, the DM and other players for just shrugging - ignoring one player like that is really flipping rude and kind of suggests other issues - maybe the OP was a horrible A, maybe the group itself was just toxic. Either way, I'd say KTA (Kinda The A), but wouldn't give the other players a pass for being A's on their own end.
I’d put some of it down to the writers bias. He said he didn’t get the chance to partake (which maybe he didn’t) but they’d been discussing it for 20 minutes. And considering they didn’t know what effects the magic items had until after purchase, 20 minutes is a long time to discuss what they should get. Which makes me think he waited until after the others had decided rather then get involved before or he did have a chance to persuade them and the others simply didn’t find his arguments compelling.
From the writers perspective, I see it as a ESH (everyone sucks here.) But it definitely seems like a case of writers bias, trying to make Ahmed and Brita seem worse than they actually are to try and garner sympathy (which a lot of people do in AITA on reddit.) Everyone should get a say, but you should also accept the group's decision, even if it's not what you wanted. From the sounds of it, OP wanted to keep the discussion going until they got their way, and nor takin no for an answer. This, and trying to force PVP because he didn't get his way is an extreme AH move. The only questions are, did OP participate in the original discussion, or did Ahmed and Brita ignore them? Was Brita actually being smug and rude to OP while purchasing the item? Or was this just OP twisting the story to make them the victim? Also, an easy solution for this would be to give everyone individual points, rather than a group pool.
Yeah, one of the groups I was in during my mid-20s had a GM that would roll d4s to determine the cup size of my wererat (hengeyokai stats, this was 3.5 D&D) who was supposed to be flat as a board.
24:02 Or maybe he acts like this because NONE OF HIS FRIENDS STOP HIM. They say he would just stop when he meets an actual girl, but no girl is ever going to talk to him with an attitude like this. Let this be a lesson. Bros don't let bros be dickheads.
"Roll for pp size," okay, roll a D10 and understand this can't be altered later, so if you get a nat 1 you gotta live with that. Also the 0 doesn't represent 10 here, so 1/10 chance you end up a eunuch.
@@GamersOnGames Happy to help! :D My wife and I rewatch all the time, and can't wait for Season 3. Also given that I was Meryl's Dungeon Master, I laughed that much harder. 😆
I cases like the point system the points should be divided up between the party members at the end of the mission. Our group does that with gold and other items that are found during a mission.
"We thought he was just too young, I mean he just graduated *HIGH SCHOOL!!"* WHAT!? I don't normally say this, but the people in the Sokka story are ACTUALLY STUPID.
2:00 She said "ex-boyfriend" (and you made sure to put extra emphasis on "ex-" when you read it), so yes. 16:26 It's a Japanese expression of confusion. The guy's clearly way too into Japanese anime stereotypes.
At worst, Sokka was a bit chauvinistic due to upbringing, but he quickly grew out of that after being humbled by Suki and the Kyoshi Warriors. I won't stand for this Sokka slander!
Not just that, Sokka was the only able bodied male in the village that was able to fight if need be as the only other guys in the village were little children. My boy had a rough hand from the start.

That, combined with the insecurity of being the weakest member of a team of powerful Elemental Benders shut yourself a steam a bit and he reacted by being braggadocious and a little bit of a jerk. But even then, he wasn't an asshole or anything even remotely like what this incel was.

And he didn't stay with that mindset - he literally grew throughout the series

That Sokka story further convinces me that calling something "based" or "cringe" is the same thing.
They aren’t meant to, but most people who use “based” seriously seem to just be cringe as a person
1. The Sokka story reminds me of that one story with someone wanting to play "Scanlan done right"
2. Sokka was ALREADY based
I wouldn't be surprised if this guy actually WAS "scanlan done "RiGhT""
Never read that first one
I could fill a book with the amount of things that Sokka has done in the series proper to earn his based status.
@@SuperBatSpider All I can say about the Scamlan story is that it also involved attempted SA (which.... thankfully involved an NPC and not a PC) and it also involved the player using a similar excuse to try and justify doing..... that

Thanks so much for covering my story! 😍 I can thankfully say no further property damaged occurred during my roleplaying career.
If Final Destination taught me anything, it's that everyone needs to keep a close eye on Meryl...
If he was based?!
IF?!
SOKKA WAS AND IS THE MOST BASED CHARACTER IN THE SERIES!!
Singing "W.I.T.C.H."? Nice. Also: the dollar store Sokka story made me sad. Sokka way too good a character for this BS.
Okay, the evil party story turned into IRL actual horror. 😱 It reminds of the D&D horror story I heard where they almost got shot.
Wow, I never thought a dnd horror story would end with someone almost being crushed to death in real life.
Big thumbs up for 'Abed' and 'Britta' guest staring as A and B in the AITA!
Suppose so! If someone did a campaign, you could do so much with these.@@finlayames6216

I always cringe when people say that someone will grow out of an extremely toxic behavior.
Call them what they are. Weebs.
I think this is the first time I've seen a D&D horror story so bad, it got covered in two different channels around the same time 💀
@@seto_kaiba_ damn 💀
That is fucking disgusting.
can we appreciate the perfection that is this thumb?
In the show, soccer wasn't even that bad even before his character development. He was a teenager growing up in a patriarchal village where he was pressured to take the place of the chieftain, his dad, and to protect his sister. With everybody being on the team being a super powerful vendor, it kind of shook what he viewed to be his role as was taught to him, but even at that point he was never an outright asshole, just kind of an arrogant jerk sometimes. He would never do anything remotely like this.
You're not Sokka. I'm not Sokka. None of us could be as cool as Sokka.
I knew Sokka of the Southern Water Tribe, and you, sir, are no Sokka of the Southern Water Tribe.
Dude be like "I'm playing sokka but sexist" my brother in Christ, you fundamentally misunderstood his character arc
Idk what’s worse the DM joining creep olympics on the channel or Andrew Tate Sokka . Why , how and who are these people ?? Do they have any friends with backbone to slap sense into them ?!?!

That thumbnail is a crime against humanity.
Wanna know the easiest way to get around the whole mimicry thing for kenkus?
Give em the telepathy feat.
In the AITA story I got the impression they talked about the items *without* the OP. Still kinda an a for attacking.
Yeah, DM shouldn't have let them spend the third point. One point per active player, and they already spent theirs.
“Sokka” wasnt even Sokka
That was Sneako with a boomerang
The stories in this episode made me physically cringe so hard that I astral projected
As someone who got suckered into saying "ara ara" at the DnD table, I sympathize with Emily. Too bad I didn't leave as quickly as Emily did
My last apartment (1st floor) had a leak in the ceiling because of renovations being done on the 2nd floor.
Roll for pregnancy is INSANE!
Seeing people use letters as names in a rpg horror story gives me 4d8 psychic damage
"Ara ara" is a weird anime phrase usually used by flirty women, it's like the equivalent of "Oh my" or something.
I'm offended that males don't get to roll for butt size. What if Valathrax, my Teifling warlock, needs to have a FUCKIN DUMPTRUCK. Its literally important to his backstory.
That wasn't a better Sokka, it was a complete utter 180° on the Netflix Sokka(they removed his sexism entirely, removing his character arc)
The only thing more based than Sokka is Book 3 Sokka

*sigh* okay...
"Ara Ara" is a Japanese colloquialism that basically translates to "Oh my!" Somehow, in the west it came specifically to be something like: "Oh my, what do we have *here*?" In a memetic George Takei-like tone, specifically from predatory women towards younger boys.
Fun fact: the red pill in the Matrix is based off Estrogen pills in the 90s. The blue pill looks like Prozack.

That thumbnail will haunt my dreams
24:02 Or maybe he acts like this because NONE OF HIS FRIENDS STOP HIM. They say he would just stop when he meets an actual girl, but no girl is ever going to talk to him with an attitude like this. Let this be a lesson. Bros don't let bros be dickheads.
