Cole was half demon he had a side that was a giant red monster.
The Charmed Ones were human witches.
He did horrible stuff but the sisters knew about it.
He was sent to kill them but he turned good or even tried his best to the full maximum but Phoebe had to be all petty after he murdered a witch UNDER A SPELL blinded by her belief he could be still evil.
He was begging Phoebe to take that part away from him and she refused to.
I would be talking a much different tone if they wouldn‘t have acted as if he wasn‘t possessed by the source of all evil.
Evil was literally chasing him but when it comes to Phoebe she is just so mean and self centered that she does not even want Cole to save innocents and tries to kill Jim but doesn‘t kill him when she finds out he wants her to kill him.
Cole tried his best and in the end I can proudly say that he WAS good - except for in the stupid “let‘s make Cole evil again for four episodes“ plot) -
Cole entered the relationship in a really concerning way and was a huge threat in the beginning but the Charmed Ones decided to project all of their shortcomings onto him.
Remember in season 6 when they let the criminal from Phoebe‘s Highschool Reunion die by turning him into Chris who was being tracked by vaporizing spit? Paige could have orbed them out but he was being too big of a problem for them.
Same thing as Phoebe in Morality Bites.
Cole is not a saint, like at all but Phoebe was the abusive one for most of the show.

Tempest was what I like to call a "concept" demon. Similar to the fear demon, they can never be banished forever. Overtime they are capable of coming back. Tempest was recently banished and as such in a deeper part of the Underworld inaccessible for normal demons, slowly reconstituting himself so that he can return to the normal world. Cole needed to go to the Source bcs he was the only one capable of contacting him, and it was a big favour bcs Tempest was still weak and him turning back time would delay his return to the world even more.
And since I'm here trying to make sense of the Charmed Lore, a word regarding the sisters previous lifes and prepared spells for the Power of Three. Bringing the Power of Three was a centuries-long project by the forces of Light. Three souls cappable of becoming part of the Power of Three where purpusfully brough closer and closer in each reincarantion to intwinie their destiny as much as possible, that's why one life they are cousins and then later sisters. Similar witches from the Halliwell bloodline knew that the Charmed ones are coming so they wrote and prepared spells taping into their power they could use in the future.
It also explained why they happened to end up living in a house that had a Nexus, it was all in preparations to make the Charmed as powerfull as possible

And while I think the episode was well done overall, this would’ve been the cherry on top. Probably would’ve ended up being the best episode of the show tbh and gave the supporting characters more of a chance to be fleshed out.

To be honest, if the viewers were given a choice over who had to leave-Alyssa or Shannen, I would've gone with Alyssa. After Shannen left, everything just seemed to center around Alyssa/Phoebe somehow. She was the center of almost every promotional poster or DVD cover, she was always credited first in the opening theme, and her love interests after Cole never had that slow bond with her-they were always just enamored with her somehow and had no real impact on her as a character. And since she is one of the producers, I can't help but think it's kind-of an ego-boost for Alyssa, having her be the center of the show. Prue had some of the best character-growth on that show and it would've been nice to see that flourish and establish a bond between her and Paige. Don't get me wrong, I do like the series, but as a lover of good stories, I can't help but feel they went in the wrong direction by keeping Alyssa as Phoebe or rather, by defecating all over Phoebe's character by making her a selfish bitch.

I thought I remember seeing that Alyssa was becoming the popular one and Shannon resented that, which may have been the cause of the rift. Which I get but it's still petty...
Anyway, there was lots of potential with Prue but, due to behind-thr-scenes-shenanigans, they gave her less before dropping her. It really is sad if you think about what could have been.

I loved Cole and Phoebe's relationship but hated how much Phoebe's character changed afterwards. This is probably my other favorite season aside from season 3. But I won't lie this is the point of the show were I don't like anything past it. It's pretty much the last tolerable season. However I also agree in that the last 4 episodes of this season are infuriating. I will say Paige is easily the best part of the season, usually when a show gains a new main character it never ends up well, but with Paige while the show got worse, it was never because she influenced it. In fact Paige is the only one of the three sisters with any sort of humanity at this point and continues throughout the rest of the show, that is when Paige isn't falling under the dreaded Charmed Curse anyway, therefore she's the "lesser of three evil" as you would call it. The things that infuriated me the most about this season was how Paige gets treated in the 2nd half of the season. (Especially *The Fifth Halliwheel*) For the first 13 or so episodes, it's just the typical unserious nature of the show, basically set standard and introducing Paige of course. I also find it weird how whenever Paige does want to use Magic for reasons of wanting to help someone she's treated in the wrong, but whenever Phoebe wants to use it for herself it's perfectly fine.
However once the Stupid source gets vanquished everyone basically treats Paige like shit. Mostly notably Phoebe (Cole has an excuse he's possessed against his will), and like I talked about last time it has to due with the fact Paige senses something wrong with Cole, and according to Phoebe she's so dense and lovestruck you can't go against anything involving Cole, yet she can whenever she gains the same amount of distrust.
I will say Paige's mistrust does come from the fact Cole use to be evil, which true isn't right to judge someone for, but at the same time she's never wrong about something being completely wrong with him. In fact when she keeps trying to tell everyone Cole's acting different they either berate her or fail to question any sort of suspicion, Paige seems to be the only one that suspects something bad is happening and Phoebe's too lovestruck to see it and Piper just follows Phoebe simply because "she doesn't wanna upset Phoebe" and remember when I said Phoebe chose Cole over her sisters in "All Hell Breaks Loose"? Well in "Saving Private Leo" she gets upset that she feels she has to choose between them and Cole, despite it not being like that at all, she's just mad because its inconveniencing her. This is basically confirmed when she chooses to be evil with Cole over her own sisters, once again confirming she cares more about her feelings for Cole than her sister's. Even the Seer calls Phoebe out on this at one point, as does Cole himself! Speaking of the Seer she even points out to the Source how stupid his plan was from the start and how stupid using the Hollow was. I also agree that *A Paige from the Past* was the best episode of the season and develops Paige a bit more.
I also agree that Phoebe choosing to be evil is the point where Phoebe became my most hated character in media. As well as how Phoebe acts through the entire 2nd half of the season. It always baffled me why she treated Paige for having any sort of distain or sensing something was off with Cole, but the moment Phoebe does herself she pulls the "Cole was always evil" card. When Piper catches on to Paige's same suspicion about Cole Phoebe says "Screw the Power of Three" when Paige tells her.
The most infuriating moments in this season are Marry Go-Round, The Fifth Halliwheel, We're off to see the Wizard and Long Live the Queen all because these feature Phoebe's bitchy and hypocritical attitude at its worse during the entire season. Especially Marry -Go Round and We're off to see the Wizard.

Idk I didn't find Paige having an issue with Cole's evil past a problem. It's much better than sweeping it under the rug like everyone else did. Her reaction was realistic imo and it really showed the difference between her & the other 2(in a good way).

    "Does evil mean more powerful?"
Yoda answered this: Not more powerful, just easier. I really like this answer, because it IS easier for me to think of a rotten person as shitty, and wanting to use violence of some sort to bring them down [and since I'm not physically powerful and wouldn't turn a knife or gun against somebody - outside of my life or someone else's being at stake - more applicable to me...]. It's a hellalot easier than trying to see them as somebody who made a wrong choice, and forgive them, knowing that they may not appreciate such mercy and turn their way around.
I don't have a story problem with this in Charmed, except I think it should've been a plot point in the very first few episodes with Piper, as she continued from the start to go behind Phoebe's back to try to reach their elder sister -- and I do think that Alyssa hid well that she was actually relieved/happy not to deal with Shannon's bullshit anymore].
As for Shannon, I wouldn't expect her to be the bigger person, but I do wonder why she couldn't appear with her "friend" Holly Marie Combs in a scene that didn't involve Alyssa being on set. Whether in this episode or a one-shot later, there should've been a scene with her comforting/confronting Piper somewhere -- maybe when Piper became a Greek Goddess or when she became a Fury. They could've handwaved an explanation for why she couldn't interact with the living, because "THE RULES" demanded that she move beyond her mortal life, before she could be allowed to interact as Grams and Mom were currently doing.
I kinda-sorta weep that Holly, Shannon, and the Staff couldn't arrange something along these lines [on the other hand, we don't know if the chaos behind the scenes affected Shannon and Holly's relationship as well - Do we?].

    • @keirak7232

I imagine Shannon was furious with everyone involved with the show. Someone, either she or Alyssa, supposedly issued an ultimatum and Shannon was not their choice. Hopefully the whole - cast reunion that's been rumoured as a Netflix original comes through, then paige can meet big sis

I honestly think the most likely truth is Milano was the problem child of Charmed. Doherty, Combs, and McGowan have all pretty much agreed that she made the set toxic, and multiple people confirming a single story tends to lend it credence.
Something I absolutely love about this show - they show that men are allowed to cry!
As far as the personal gain argument... yeah, Phoebe was allowed to get away with everything on this show. Once again leaning to my theory that Milano was so difficult to work with that they basically let her do what she wanted once she became an executive producer. Although, at the same time, she did choose evil because she actually WAS under the influence of the Source's demonic child in her womb.
While the Seer claiming the child was hers all along was dumb (because that's not how natural pregnancy works), it should be noted that the unborn demon baby BECAME the new Source of All Evil after Cole's death, hence why he had all the powers of the Source.

Yeah. Me, too. And the shame of it is, Piper resenting Paige for 'replacing' Prue would be absolutely human of her. It's wrong, of course, but it's understandable. You could sympathize with her, and still be on her side and want to hug her and help her through it.... Except.
Except, the writing wants to overcome this character moment/arc in one episode, without exploring it, because Charmed can't be bothered with actual storylines. Poor Rose. Poor behind the scenes peeps who have to deal with Alyssa's ego, and a very weak Producer (that would be you, Holly Marie). All of these have the seeds to be heart-wrenching for more than 10 seconds. But nobody on this staff is Joss, or Jane or anyone who would tell our "stars" that they need to embrace being wrong, and then play it to the hilt, instead of turning out to be INNOCENT at the closing credits. And none of our actresses (though I think it's mostly Milano) will live with the fact that their characters are NOT them... they can be wrong, they can do things that fans will hate, they can be petty and repulsive for a certain situation, and nobody will hate their characters (read them, because they lost sight that there is a difference) forever.
I.E. they can be adults dealing with horrible adult choices and sometimes failing, without making their character always right, even if everyone around them has to ignore what they just did/apologize for doubting them/be shown to suffer because they didn't bow down to the Charmed One/[the actresses with Producer titles].
I can only think that Brian Krause went through Hell trying to play the doormat that was Leo [but considering the pay for a regular gig, I forgive his eating it completely], without ever being able to give Piper some sort of comeuppance, for her at-times repugnant character.
I can't imagine that Alyssa & Holly didn't notice that their characters were coming across as utterly selfish and gross, except if they were absolutely lost in their egos. [Between you and me: I sometimes thought that Alyssa was playing horrendously selfish just to see how far the fans would go to excuse her. I don't *really* think that, but I had wondered if maybe all of this was a "really guys... REALLY... you're getting on board with this, instead of calling my character out?? ... but I think that is just what I want to believe, because I want to like her - as explained below.]
***[This is only about this role though. I know that Alyssa has been an activist, including for AIDS victims when it was easier to just spit on them. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for that. It doesn't change Charmed's script quality, though.]***

I loved all the skimpy outfits. The female body is beautiful, why hide it?
I only wish I had been confident enough when I was younger to have worn similar outfits.

@Ulyx - Because women are only allowed to do what they want, have agency and be strong/independent in ways that are approved by the Femorthodoxy... at times approved by the Femorthodoxy.
This grown woman isn't allowed to wear revealing clothing, leave that to the 12 year olds in yet another instalment of "WTF Netflix"?

That clip of Piper saying "how does a Whitelighter get somebody knocked up" makes no sense. Piper has been to the future where she and Leo had a daughter. She knows that Whitelighters are fertile.

How the power of three prophecy came about was actually shown in the episode where the girls go back in time to save Melinda before she was born. Their great x10 grandmother saw how powerful they were so she wrote about them in the book “predicting” the power of three. It’s not like she foresaw it really. Together, anything is stronger. And I don’t think the power of three spell is like a written and made spell. I think it works like them focusing their power and believing in their love for each other. The chant just helps the focusing. And the other spells written are by their ancestors who’s encounter the demons and made the spells themselves.

In "Bite Me" Paige has a date with Ronan, but he doesn't show up because he's a vampire waiting outside to ambush her. When Paige decides to call it a night, her sisters invited her to dinner. She says "no, I don't Ronan to think I was waiting for him if he shows up this late" implying that P3 does serve food, it is just served entirely offscreen.

Someone can be born a white lighter or you can die and become a white lighter.. Wyatt is very powerful not only because he's half witch half white lighter, but because he is also the first born of a charmed one.

Phoebe didn't have to stay in the underworld because the deal The Source made was to save all the sisters. Since he broke his end, Phoebe wasn't magically obligated to stay...

These are hilarious, even though charmed is my favourite show these are really a lot of fun to watch !! But I’d just like to point out that when Piper freezes Cole to stop him from dying it’s not a continuity issue like it usually is, when he didn’t get frozen before it was because she was only trying to freeze the humans so they could tell who the demons were. As he was a demon, he didn’t get frozen.

The child would be doubly powerful because first borns are the most powerful witches, and it'd be a second generation charmed witch as opposed to basic witches who are every single relative before the sisters were born. they basically level up the family tree that come after them.

I feel like Piper's position regarding binding would make more sense if it was framed as her wanting the baby not to be defenseless against demons? But that would recquire her accepting the reality that magic shit isn't going to go away by ignoring it.

    • @jonanice

    • @jonanice
      @jonanice 4 года назад +1

@@friendsfans123 I can’t remember the it perfectly but first they send the cop off with a spell & but not sure exactly where, so Cole says ‘I’ll go find him’ when he comes back they ask where he put him & Cole says something like ‘oh he’s somewhere he can’t tell no-one’ & looks down & Phoebe asks ‘in the basement?’ & he pulls this face so then (I think piper) says ‘oh I think he means deeper then that’ lol & then (I think Phoebe) yells at him that he can’t do that & needs to go bring him back

    • @friendsfans123
      @friendsfans123 4 года назад

Jonanice I mean you aren’t wrong but Phoebe did send the cop to Timbuktu initially and that’s what the whole point was

Season 4 is one of my favourite seasons of Charmed. While I do see the glaring writing mistakes when it comes to the characters, I really enjoyed Phoebe tiptoeing her way on either side of the conflict and how she struggles with her possible evil side. Plus, seeing Paige be the voice of reason worked well for the beginning of her character arc(with her being basically a stranger to Piper it allowed us to see how she isn't really accepted as a sister yet)

  • @BradleyS95

Love these videos! But I think your question at 28:22, is that in the S3 episode they make Piper freeze the innocents in the room I think, so technically Cole wouldn't freeze if he's evil at that point.

Watching this video made me realize Cole is done badly. Of all the talk of saving innocent lives, Cole did more work to save himself and he still dies for his trouble. The all powerful witches who's job is to save people and they're refusing to do so each time Cole asks or a chance is present before them. Justice for Cole Turner!
