Too little, too late?

I would think that all the automakers should take a hint and drop their prices. If ya ask me, there shouldn't be any cars or trucks (excluding the classics) that are from the 70's or 80's on the road still.

If gas continues to rise in the upcoming years, employees should be allowed to sleep in their cars on the company parking lot from M-Friday!
Of course, then the company would have to install showers wouldn't they?

I guess everyone on this board drives imports, then.

Pretty cool I guess. Do you know if they will drop prices on the Titans? I'm going to buy a Titan in about 2 months. Hopefully they do drop the prices on those. But if they have good rebates on the F-150s including the price drop, i'll be leaning towards that instead.

Problem is American automakers do not like to build small cars, much less a good quality small car. And with gas prices on the rise, people are going to go running to the small fuel-efficient cars. Only here in the US are people obsessed with the SUV's. I don't understand the obsession, they are boxy, ugly in-efficient vehicles and most of them don't really have a lot of room in them no matter how BIG they get. They just don't get it, there is no reason for cars to be like tanks anddd they aren't any safer either the bigger they get. You want to buy a piece of shit gas guzzling tank, then you can fucking pay for the fuel and I don't want to hear anyone crying....idiots. Also, they aren't encouraged for alternative fuels or electrics. Here's one...diesels will run on just about anything, not just diesel fuel and they don't pollute like gasoline does either.

Personally I'll keep my small efficient sporty Mazda MX-6, and I won't cry too much about the fuel prices, although they are outrageous. Big oil continues to make huge profits, but does the govt do anything about it... noooo

American automakers always seem to be behind. I remember 15 years ago when lots of people wanted more powerful faster cars and the choice was rather limited unless you were going to by a corvette or something like that. Now they are coming out with bigger, more powerful, faster cars and it is the absolute worst time for them and people are gradually going back to the more fuel efficient ones. Also the U.S auto-makers always seemed to cut more corners with the way they produced them, although now it seems like everybody is doing that because businesses in other countries are becoming more "Americanized".

carmakers don't really give a shit about anything other than what sells. and there is no lack of that. face it, the kind of people that can afford to buy a new car aren't hurting because gas is 3 bucks a gallon.

I think it's the opposite, that no one should be allowed to buy new cars. we never need to make another car. there are more then enough allready. also I don't see any evidence that new cars are better for the environment, in fact I think that they are worse. because the government gets it's kick back from tax on all those nice 50k hummers, new cars are not evaluated for environmental standards. So which is a company going to do: spend money on resourch and development to ensure that it's eco freindly, even though it doesn't have to? or is it going to cut costs to ensure maximum product distribution? since they do it on everything else, and most of these guys have everyone paid off anyway that might try and stop them from doing such, I highly doubt that this case is any different.

I'm not living in america but the gas price is still influencing my country..

but except for one thing, cars in 70's is still on the road, there is no place to dump the old car....should do something to it...and still old cars and motocycles still using the red petrol, I mean leaded ones..so this one is more cheper....

my country is famous for the nicest road network in SE Asia but it also famoust for the road accident rate......:( maybe we should reduce the car...

but when I think about it, the imported car keep come in. Brand like Honda, Toyota, Kia , hyundai..etc...is on the road now....including the local cars..can you imagine that I have to face the traffic jams every morning?

that all....gas price is not an issue in my contry....

Want my honest answer, get a motorbike, there cheaper, use less fuel and are better for the planet. They ease congestion, plus fossil fuel will last longer in the long run.

My way of looking at it $500-$1000 off of a $50,000 vehicle is nowhere near enough make it $10,000-$20,000 and I'd be impressed.

Just as Nero played the fiddle while Rome burned, do you really expect GM to lower prices while simultaneously declaring bankruptcy? And believe it or not, all automobiles undergo extensive environmental impact studies.
